It takes work to create healthy habits and many Moms don’t seem to find time to take care of themselves. They don’t have time to get sick, struggle to get an appointment at the beauty salon, or are too tired to hit the gym. Let’s not mention eating habits — healthy living is definitely a challenge.
Habits — both good and bad — have us repeating a specific behavior without second thoughts. Let us not wait to see our hair begin to fall out, our nails to become brittle or clothes get too tight!
Diet & Exercise
Even on a tight budget, you start creating healthy habits when you do your grocery shopping. Incorporate more veggies! You’ll be surprised how satisfying they are. Just make sure you cook them or find them cooked without any added fats like cheese or creamy sauces. Eating a healthy requires skipping a few snacks, which tend to be expensive anyway, so stick to buying more vegetables, beans and brown rice.
Exercising doe not require an expensive gym membership. To find time to exercise, set fixed breaks in your hectic schedule and limit social media!
Sleeping & Grooming
Sleep is essential to healthy living. With not enough hours in the day, we end up cutting down on sleep. To meet deadlines some of us work late into the night, or we do laundry or dishes at midnight. Make the effort to get at least 7 hours of sleep. The world will still be there when you wake up. In a crunch? 6 hours for a few days, but that’s it.
You can manage with a daily shower, of course, but a little more effort pays up. Us Latinas are known for always looking neat and gorgeous. Are you willing to be the first one to show the contrary? We didn’t think so. Besides, when you groom and take care of your skin, hair, nails and wear clean and neat clothes, it automatically makes you feel empowered and energized!
We all have habits we would like to change, because there is always room for improvement. Make the pledge to create healthy habits and set an example for your kids to follow. Healthy habits are developed through repetition. See how we did that?
