Instagram Accounts to Keep Us Sane After 2020

in Mind + Body on 01/18/21

As we endure the first few days of 2021, many of us find ourselves in scenes fit for the second season of 2020. Our tiny screens are a constant reminder of the perpetuation of turmoil and pain around us. Meanwhile, both mental and physical exhaustion are increasing as we relive our own version of Groundhog Day. But, as cliche as it may sound, we have some power to refresh our minds — even if it’s for a moment.

The digital millennia has conditioned us to absorb everything our devices project, which is why we must curate our feed. This doesn’t mean that you will become less informed, though. Balance is the key to sanity, or so they say. For this reason, we want to share some Instagram accounts that will not only refresh your feed but your mind as well.

Scroll ahead and give the accounts below a follow. You’ll see the difference it will make to your mind soon enough.

LatinxTherapy @latinxTherapy

LatinxTherapy’s sole purpose is to delegitimize the dialogue around mental health in the Latinx community. They do so through their bilingual podcast and by using their various platforms for the greater good. You’ll find that their online presence is filled with resources and posts that serve to support the community with their mental health.

Fat Chicana Feminist @fatchicanafeminist

This account is full of quotes or notitas meant to uplift anyone who crosses it. It also helps empower its audience through constant reminders of self-care and wellness. The content is lighthearted and easy to digest, especially when you might be feeling overwhelmed

Sad Girls Club @sadgirlsclub

This account is much more than what their username may indicate. Sad Girls Club is actually a 501c3 organization that advocates for Black women and POC. They achieve this by sharing a variety of beneficial resources. Aside from that, they encourage individuals to transform into their best selves as they tend to their mental health thanks to their thoughtful posts.

Jennizzle @Jennizzle

Humor helps maintain a healthy mind. In fact, many argue that laughter is nature’s best medicine. Though we aren’t experts in this matter, we can say that our most stressful days can become brighter after a few moments of belly laughs. This is why you need to add the account where one of the most notable online abuela is regularly making an appearance.

Jennzizle, or Jenny Lorenzo, is a voice actor and content creator who makes mini skits that appeal to the Latinx experience. She single-handedly tickles our hearts with her unparalleled humor and pokes at our nostalgia all at once. It’s overall, a masterpiece. If she’s not part of your feed yet, make sure you change that immediately.

To Vape or Not To Vape?

Recently your newsfeed has probably been flooded with horror stories of vaping gone wrong — kids who turned to vaping as a presumably safer alternative to smoking cigarettes were ending up in the hospital, on a respirator, or worse, suffering the fatal consequences of their vice.
