According to the fitness expert site The 12 Minute Athlete, the burpee is a full body strength training exercise and the ultimate example of functional fitness. With every rep, you’ll work your arms, chest, quads, glutes, hamstrings, and abs. After a few sets of burpees, your legs should feel a little bit like lead, and your heart should be pumping!
Start in a standing position, then squat down until your hands touch the floor and kick your feet back into push-up position. From there you push-up, then jump back and up into original position and repeat. Easy to do, but trust us, these babies will have you sweating!
Why not add some fun and variety to your cardio by incorporating a sport? Playing tennis is great because it gets your blood flowing, your heart pumping, feeds your competitive side and is a sport that can be played at nearly any age and skill level.
And besides the fun fact, did you know that people who participate in tennis 3 hours per week (at moderately vigorous intensity) cut their risk of death in half from any cause? This is a proven fact according to physician Ralph Paffenbarger who studied over 10,000 people over a period of 20 years.
So, what are you waiting for to get your girlfriends involved and setting up a weekly tennis date?
