Most Latinas are living a fast-paced life. After all, we have to work twice as hard to make what a non-Hispanic man makes and that boils my blood more than you can imagine. So, it makes sense when most Latinas, including me, tell you that we are stressed AF.
Though we are probably one of the most stressed Latinas in modern history, we usually carry it without anyone knowing the burden it’s causing us. However, that doesn’t take away from the fact that stress has consequences on our health.
Stress can be a silent monster and an instigator for underlying health issues. You must pay attention to how stress can be affecting your life.
Below are some of the discomforts that derive from being a stressed Latina.
Irritability
Living a stressful life can test anyone’s patience. You are a constant ticking time bomb waiting to go off if something doesn’t go your way. Surely, your stress comes from trying to fix your life around unrealistic expectations. Make sure you practice mindfulness to try to cancel out the irritability. And, amiga, take it easy.
Lack of motivation and creativity
When we are stressed, we often get a jolt of adrenaline. This can be due to our fear of not feeding into our stressed mentality. Due to that, we may suffer from a lack of motivation or creativity. It’s as though the adrenaline is activated in vain because it won’t be used to mobilize your ideas or plans as efficiently as you’d hope. Instead, it will aid in procrastination because you aren’t as inspired as you need to be. Again, take it easy and relax. Productivity can come from a rested mind.
Forgetfulness
Talking about your mind, know that it won’t be performing at its maximum potential. Being stressed can fog your brain, hence causing anyone to forget simple things. This is why I can’t stress (no pun intended) how much you need to let yourself breathe and be present instead of worrying so much.
Now, don’t get me wrong – stress will always be part of our lives. One way or another, there will be something that we believe needs our control or that we would like to control. But, chances are, most of the time, things will be okay if you let it unfold organically without you hovering over the situation (both physically and in your mind.)
Note that we aren’t medical doctors, and everyone deals with stress differently. Nevertheless, please consult your physician above anything, especially if your stress is becoming detrimental to your wellbeing.
