Have you ever heard the saying “it takes a village to raise a child”? It means that your friends and family must be involved to some degree to help you raise and nurture your child. It implies that we are reliant on our community to create a positive environment for our children.
Without our village, we would feel isolated, stressed out, and overwhelmed. Having support does not diminish that you are capable of accomplishing things alone. It is your drive and perseverance that allow you to succeed.
However, if you think about it, during all our successes and significant milestones, we are surrounded by at least one person that has supported us from day one. Without building a support network, you will find it more difficult to grow and achieve your goals. Here are a few tips that will help you develop a strong support system to ultimately become the best version of yourself.
Nurture Your Relationships
We all have loved ones who support us and are happy about our accomplishments. Even if you have a difficult relationship with your family, we always run into someone that motivates us. This can be a teacher, a neighbor, or even a coworker. Sometimes, we can get so absorbed in our daily routines that we forget to tend to our relationships. Check in on them. Send them a quick text that makes them feel you are thinking about them. Listen to them when they need to vent.
Listening makes you more mindful of others’ hardships, which raises your self-awareness. Having a strong relationship is a two-way road, and you need to put in the effort to sustain a strong bond.
Accept Help
Amiga, it is okay to ask for help. I know you are a strong, independent woman and can overcome any obstacle thrown your way. You do not need to be this perfect person who embodies strength and never falls apart. You can ask for and accept help. After all, needing support is a part of what makes us human. We cannot do it all alone. Learning to put your pride to the side and accepting help from people helps you grow as a person and ultimately build and strengthen your support network.
Rely on the Magic of Social Media
Social media allows us to stay connected with our friends and family. Many of us have loved ones that live far away or have been unable to see due to the ongoing pandemic. Thankfully, due to social platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and even Whatsapp, we can stay in touch and interact with one another. Feeling more connected with your support network eases you into asking for guidance and advice. Hearing someone else’s perspective will open your mind to countless possibilities and cultivate the path towards your growth.
In the end, it is the power of human connection that gives us the strength and resilience to overcome anything that comes our way.
