The New Year is upon us, and we need to start thinking about what that means for us in terms of growth.
We all may be thinking about our resolutions, which are the go-to for the New Year, but we should do it differently this year. Rather than obsessing over unrealistic expectations, let’s work on our drive and spirituality.
Taking spirituality into account can help you start the New Year with determinations — all you need to do is tweak your spiritual ritual.
I’ll be sharing my easy-to-follow rituals, at least a few of them, so that you can bring light and peace into 2022. We all could use some of that, don’t you agree?
Sage
By now, everyone is hyped up on the wonders of burning sage. But did you know saging your home and personal spaces has been around for ages? I like to burn sage in the morning in order to have the morning daylight as guidance. You can find sage at your nearest botanica or spiritual store, but please, whatever you do, don’t buy it at a store that is obviously appropriating from Indigenous culture or from Whole Foods. Do it right, amigas!
Incense
Something about burning incense clears my mind. It gets me in the right mood, and it has me finishing all my tasks on time. It could be because its benefits include:
- Increase in calm and focus
- Reduces stress and anxiety
- Aids sleep
- Stimulates creativity
Incense comes in many forms. It can be from sticks to loose powders. What matters, however, is that the incense you are burning is made from natural ingredients such as charcoal and essential oils; incense made from synthetic ingredients will make your space uncomfortable and can cause you bodily discomfort as well.
Florida Water
Some may say that Florida Water or Agua de Florida may smell like an Abuela’s house, but, if anything, that makes it even better. See, Florida Water is wonderful to rid your space of negative energies that may hinder your drive. So, if you want to start on the right foot, spray and splash this lovely liquid all over your house, and anywhere you may be present. Please be sure to spray it at the entrance and every door in your home. Feel free to spray it at work and in your car too. And, no, don’t warn anyone about it — just tell them this year’s an air freshener if they start badgering you about your ritual. You don’t need their bad vibes, after all.
