We are sure you’ve all felt that gentle summer breeze brush up on your face by now. Or was that just us? Though summer won’t officially be here for a few more weeks, we need to start preparing for it. keeping the family entertained during summer break takes some mean planning!
Claro, we understand that some activities can seem expensive. It is also not uncommon to have people think of summertime as the perfect opportunity to travel. However, between the skyrocketing prices of flights, the discomfort in being in places with many people due to the ongoing pandemic, and the lack of time, it is understandable why people would want to look at other options.
But all the aforementioned “dilemmas” are easily fixed with a good ol’ staycation. Ah, yes — a staycation. Is there even a better way to enjoy the summer (this is a rhetorical question)? Nonetheless, one thing is for sure: this will allow you to have fun with your family in the comfort of your city without breaking the bank.
Claro, planning for a staycation can be a headache, too. But don’t worry! We’ve got you covered with some great ideas you can share with your family.
Take notes and get ready for an unforgettable summer!

Be a tourist in your city!
The never-ending whirlwind of a routine will have anyone forget to appreciate their surroundings in depth. However, without even realizing it, paradise can be right under your nose. For example, try going to your local botanical garden or museum. As an extra tip, go to their respective websites and check when they have discounts for students, children, or if they partake in family day discounts. These places often include such specials, so do your research!
How about a picnic?
Picnics are a great way to share time with your family while enjoying the beauty of the outdoors. First, you can task each member of your family with something. Maybe have one of them make sandwiches, another one pick out the sheets for the ground, and so on and so forth. Once you have the picnic, savor each moment. It’s in the simplest of times where the greatest of memories are created. Remember, a picnic can take place in a park, beach, or even your own backyard.

Or some family volunteering?
Talking about nature, have your family bond through caring for the environment. As we all know, Mother Nature is constantly suffering thanks to the carelessness of others. However, you can serve as an example for your family and take them out for a beach cleanup. It might not be the most glamorous of activities, but it sure is one of the most satisfying. You could even use this experience to make it artistic. Maybe have your family write a poem or draw something regarding the beach cleanup — you’ll see that they will understand the importance of a beach cleanup afterward.
Kayaking
By now you must’ve noticed the trend of nature. What can I say? Nature is magical in all senses of the word. This is why I also encourage you to add kayaking to your staycation activities. My one suggestion is to get the best “driver” at the front if you’re doing a multiple-seated kayak. Someone had the bright idea to make me head the kayak and I almost ended up in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. It makes for a fun story, but a scary moment when it’s happening.

Go camping!
I can’t omit camping from the list, especially not when it’s such a thrilling activity for the entire family. Again, there are plenty of locations camping can take place in. Check if your city has designated camping parks or forests. However, if all fails, set up a tent in your backyard or a friend’s backyard. This would work just as fine. Liven up the camping experience for your family by roasting marshmallows and making s’mores with them, making elote, or even making some hot dogs. For safety purposes, I won’t suggest you build a fire. But maybe take a mini barbeque grill or gas stove for your heating matters. Safety first, am I right?
Whether or not you decide on a staycation this year, just make sure you just have fun with your family. It’s been quite the ride these past two years and you all deserve to unwind.
