Mom Dresses As Man To Attend Son’s School Breakfast

in School Years on 09/09/16

Single moms often find themselves playing both roles, and a Texas mama took that to heart when dropping her son off to school last week.

When Yevette Vasquez pulled up to her son Elijah’s school, she noticed the parking lot was busier than usual. The 12-year-old explained it was a “Donuts with Dad” morning, where dad-son pair up and eat breakfast at the school. With Elijah’s father out of the picture, she was determined to make sure her son didn’t feel left out. “I wasn’t about to let him miss out,” she wrote in a Facebook post that has since gone viral. “I know seeing other dads with (their) kids isn’t easy for mine, but it’s life. At least I can do whatever it takes to put a smile on that face.”

The creative mom headed home, where she changed into a plaid shirt, Rangers baseball cap, wallet chain, mustache, and she topped it all off with a spritz of cologne. Elijah even helped her pick the outfit. “He kept saying, ‘No, you still look like a girl!’” Yevette said.

From the moment she arrived in her new wardrobe, Yevette says she was met with nothing but love and support. And from the looks of it, it’s something Elijah will never forget!

Non-profit organizations are a crucial element in Non-profit organizations are a crucial element in building healthy and thriving communities. It's not about demagogic philanthropy or fiscal stratagems; it's a real support network that ends up becoming the voice of the people they serve.

As the National Council of Nonprofits explains, America's 1.3 million charitable nonprofits feed, heal, shelter, educate, inspire, enlighten, and nurture people of every age, gender, race, and socioeconomic status, from coast to coast, border to border, and beyond.

"They foster civic engagement and leadership, drive economic growth, and strengthen the fabric of our communities. Every single day," the NCN adds.

Today we honor those affected and raise awareness Today we honor those affected and raise awareness about human trafficking and forced labor across the United States.

LatinX communities are at increased risk for human trafficking. Some stats by the National Human Trafficking Hotline reveal that 77% of confirmed Latin Americans and Caribbeans are easy targets for traffickers. The remaining 23% are victims of sex trafficking or a combination of sex and labor trafficking.

In terms of where most of these victims come from, six out of ten possible victims from Latin America and the Caribbean come from Mexico. The industry where they are most vulnerable is agriculture.

And not only is the Latinx community at elevated risk of being targeted for human trafficking, but too often, law enforcement and immigration officials seem to miss opportunities to identify and prevent trafficking attempts.

If this cause is close to your heart, you can learn more about identifying a victim at: dhs.gov/blue-campaign/identify-victim
