Building self-esteem in teens can be hard. Their bodies go through hormonal changes, their personality switches from a very comfortable child with no sense of direction, to an existential pre-adult trying to find out who they are. There’s pressure at school, sexual tension and a lot of bullying. So here’s a list of tips and tricks building self-confidence in your teen.
1. Compliment all you want but be wary of criticism
You can tell your kid you think they’re special and beautiful every day, but if you criticize their bodies, weight or performance once and that’s all they’ll remember. Freely tell them how amazing they are at what they do, and who they are, and be very gentle when you need to talk to them about what’s wrong.
