School is back in session and we all know that trying to keep it together those first few weeks may feel like una locura.
However, not to toot my own horn here, but I think I may be getting good at keeping it together during this anxiety-inducing season. All you need is to lock a solid morning routine down and — BOOM! — your day won’t feel like it’s falling apart anymore (or at least not completely).
Don’t believe me? Well, try out these morning routine hacks and you’ll see you won’t be going crazy any longer during the messy, back-to-school weeks.
Ya pronto se podrán relajar un poquito. ¡Se acordarán de mí!
Packing lunches isn’t the funniest of activities. At least, it wasn’t until recently. I used to pack lunches the day before, but I realized this was causing me to go to bed at almost midnight every day.
So, I opted on incorporating a sort of meal-planning technique into my kid’s lunch schedule, and it’s been a game-changer!
I now prepare their lunches for the five days on Sunday. I have a 7-year-old and an 11-year-old, so I make sure they are part of the process. Trust me, this helps loads, and it makes mornings easier.
Wake up on time
I am teaching my kids to set their own alarm clock and wake up on their own to learn how to be more independent.
I incentivize them with their breakfast options. If they wake up on time, they get their favorite breakfast meal, but they can only make it in time for a bowl of cereal and juice if they wake up late.
Having them take care of this task allows me to have a more relaxing morning (well, somewhat) while teaching them responsibility. Practice this on the weekend if you feel they need a few more days to get it; you won’t regret it.
Alistando the backpacks and clothes
Before anyone can go to sleep, it is so important to have backpacks ready as well as their clothes picked out the night before. I used to allow them to choose the morning off, but it became too much of a mess.
So, now, I allocate 30 minutes for them to organize their belongings and leave them in front of their beds. This helps everyone in the household stress less about where the shoes are at 6 A.M.
Overall, try to maintain a calm demeanor in the mornings because kids mirror our behavior more than you think. Woosa, amigas. We can do this!
