Don’t let heartburn get in the way of your date night

Here’s the truth: enjoying a date night after you’ve become a parent (or after giving birth) can be quite challenging. Sharing an intimate moment with your partner outside the house, without baby bottles, and dirty diapers isn’t something you are able to do in snap, especially if you don’t have any help. For us mothers, it can be even more stressful if your body is still adjusting during the postpartum stage.

I remember the first time my husband and I went out after our baby was born. It was pretty uncomfortable since I still had heartburn, an achaque that followed after delivery. We both love to experiment with ethnic foods and flavors, and this time heartburn was preventing me from doing the things I usually enjoy as a woman and as a wife. I guess it has to do with the fact that my body wasn’t ready for complex dishes (or that we had been relying on frozen, somewhat healthy food to get through full-time jobs, two kids, and a life).

Since heartburn creates all kinds of problems both physically and emotionally, I knew I needed something that worked in a couple of days. After all, if mom is OK, our family and our husbands will be OK. After trying a few over-the-counter remedies that were neither practical nor very effective, I recently came across Omeprazole Orally Disintegrating Tablets. It works exactly like the Omeprazole currently available, but is a dissolving tablet that provides lasting heartburn relief –which is perfect for busy moms as it’s easy-to-take orally, with MELTech formula, that literally melts on your tongue.

For a date night, there’s nothing better than putting on my high heels and not thinking about packing half a dozen diapers, sippy cups, snacks, and a change of clothes for everybody. Another reason to love Omeprazole ODT? No glass of water is needed for this tablet; just take it with you! I can simply throw it in my purse, dab a bit of lipstick and go before the kids start to scream.

Omeprazole ODT treats the same symptoms as Prilosec OTC but in a more convenient form (and with a more pleasant strawberry flavor, might I add!). One dose is taken every 24 hours for 14 days, and due to its long-lasting protection, this tablet is an ideal choice for frequent heartburn sufferers. Of course, if your heartburn persists check with your doctor! When you’re a mother, it’s better to be safe than sorry when it comes to your health.

While some may get relief in the first 24 hours, Omeprazole ODT is not intended for immediate relief and may take 1-4 days for the full effect. You shouldn’t take this medication for more than 14 days unless directed by a doctor.

So while our lives now revolve around parenthood and the busy and often chaotic routine of children, including a newborn, it’s important to reconnect as a couple. What’s even more important is to feel comfortable with your body after pregnancy so there’s nothing in the way to be yourself and enjoy those special moments. Remember, motherhood doesn’t mean to sacrifice your identity… It’s just another hat you have to wear from now on!

Today we honor those affected and raise awareness Today we honor those affected and raise awareness about human trafficking and forced labor across the United States.

LatinX communities are at increased risk for human trafficking. Some stats by the National Human Trafficking Hotline reveal that 77% of confirmed Latin Americans and Caribbeans are easy targets for traffickers. The remaining 23% are victims of sex trafficking or a combination of sex and labor trafficking.

In terms of where most of these victims come from, six out of ten possible victims from Latin America and the Caribbean come from Mexico. The industry where they are most vulnerable is agriculture.

And not only is the Latinx community at elevated risk of being targeted for human trafficking, but too often, law enforcement and immigration officials seem to miss opportunities to identify and prevent trafficking attempts.

If this cause is close to your heart, you can learn more about identifying a victim at: dhs.gov/blue-campaign/identify-victim
