5 Things They Didn’t Tell You About Pregnancy
Some say that pregnancy is the gift that keeps on giving, but no one cleared up what those “gifts” were…
Having a healthy baby is a definite blessing. What doesn’t feel like such are the additional “gifts” that come with the territory of being pregnant.
Even super sexy mom Kim Kardashian has confessed:
“I’m gonna keep it real: For me, pregnancy is the worst experience of my life! LOL! I don’t enjoy one moment of it and I don’t understand people who enjoy it. My mom and Kourtney clearly did! More power to them but I just don’t relate.
“Maybe it’s the swelling, the backaches or just the complete mindfuck of how your body expands and nothing fits. I just always feel like I’m not in my own skin. It’s hard to explain. I don’t feel sexy, either — I feel insecure and most of the time I just feel gross.”
“People just don’t tell you all of the gross things that happen during pregnancy or after. Do you know you basically have to wear a diaper for two months afterwards?! LOL! No one told me that! #SoSexy.
So let’s be real and check out these surprisingly common (and totally gross) pregnancy symptoms nobody talks about.
Constipation plagues many moms-to-be and turns pooping into a rough process. Soon after you conceive, skyrocketing pregnancy hormones slow your digestive tract to a crawl which can throw off your digestion as early as eight weeks. By the second trimester, your crowded baby starts putting added pressure on your bowels! Battle back by adding more fiber to your diet, drinking more water, keeping active and taking your daily prenatal.
Grooming “Down There”
With your baby bump growing by the minute – it’s inevitable that there will come a time when you won’t be able to see what’s going on down there (or tend to it). And to make matters worse, lots of people will soon be up close and personal with your lady parts! Please don’t go all blind ninja with your razor – opt for a pro wax instead!
You’ll pretty much be dripping from everywhere – especially during the last trimester. Gross, but true. High levels of hormones are to blame for increased vaginal discharge, nighttime drooling and your constant runny nose. Oh – and leaking bladders and nipples are even more signs that your body is getting baby-ready – fun!
What Is That Dark Line?!
You might grow skin tags, get a dark mask across your face, grow a dark line on your belly and suddenly have more acne than when you were 16. Thank pregnancy hormones for these annoying (and unattractive) side effects! Increased estrogen boost the body’s production of melanin (the natural substance that gives your skin pigment) resulting in darkened areas and pimply break outs!
Didn’t realize that feeling like a total ditz was a side effect of being pregnant? You’ve probably heard the term “mommy brain” before – that’s because it’s a real thing! According to experts, the brain actually may be altered during pregnancy affecting short-term memory and concentration. At least now you have an excuse!
Pack up your Jimmy Choos because suddenly you’ve noticed your calves have melted into your ankles! You may experience some water weight and swelling like never before and don’t be surprised if you no longer can squeeze into your shoes. While often harmless, ugly swollen ankles can send a mommy-to-be’s emotions into overdrive!
