Breast Implants Out, Butts Lifts In: 10 Most Popular Plastic Surgeries & Their Pros And Cons
Breast Implants and Augmentation
Pros: Most likely, the thought of having fuller, perkier breasts (without the help of a push up) have crossed most women’s minds at some point or another. But does a bigger chest equal more happiness? Well, according to a study published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, most women with breast implants are not only happier, but have more sexual satisfaction. Results also showed tremendous improvement in most aspects affecting quality of life. For example, satisfaction with breasts increased dramatically from about 25 (prior to surgery) to about 80 (after surgery). Scores for psychosocial and sexual well-being saw a similar increase.
Cons: Although considered relatively safe, breast augmentation (like any surgery) comes with a fair share of risks. Common complications include infection, chronic breast pain, breast or nipple numbness, breakage and leakage, necrosis (skin death), cosmetic problems — such as dissatisfaction with the end result. Also, if you’re looking to breastfeed in the future, there’s a small risk you could damage breast ducts, hindering your ability to do so. “To lower the risks of interfering with breastfeeding, the general recommendation is to avoid the periareolar incision (because of the risk for interfering with nipple sensation) and to place the implant under the muscle”, says Denver Plastic Surgeon Gregory A. Buford.
